Background - Situated in Scotland, Scottish Power's Longannet Powerstation is a 4x600MW plant. In order to burn gas, remain competitive and increase flexibility a need was identified for a control upgrade.

Solution - Ambrio worked with Scottish Power, under tight deadlines, to develop a soft-desk based full plant management system for all boiler combustion controls.

The boiler controls, as well as other extsting data aquisition hardware, were integrated into the new system. The expasion of control systems included new PLC's to control the gas firing.

The supplied solution was innovative - it was the first of its kind, anywhere in the world.

Benefits- The systems used are very user friendly, requiring little training or support.

The system is extreamly reliable, partially due to the high level of redundancy that has been built into it.

As the project was such a success, Scotish Power decided to do the same to another unit during the winter - almost all the work can be done without any need to take the unit off load.
